How do I switch my keyboard language from French to English or English to French?

Press the CTRL and SHIFT keys at the same time to change the keyboard from French to English and vice-versa. If that doesn’t work for your computer, press the CTRL and ALT keys at the same time.

How do I use Moodle?
I lost my USB stick at the computer lab where can I go to see if it was found?

The JDH Computer Lab has a lost and found box. Ask a lab assistant for more information.

I need help registering for courses. Who can I contact?

You will need to contact the Registrar’s Office.

I need to print off large posters, where can I do that?

My personal laptop is not working, where can I go to get it fixed?

Unfortunately the ITS department at St. Thomas University does not service personal laptops. If you are having an problem with your personal laptop you can take your laptop to a local computer repair center such as:

Where can I access a computer on Campus?

Students have access to computers in the following areas:

  • James Dunn Hall Computer Lab (JDH 2nd floor)- offers black & white, color, single-sided and double-sided printing options- contains scanner for student copying/scanning needs
  • Dr. Daniel O’Brien Study Hall (MMH 2nd floor)- offers black & white, single-sided printing
  • Brian Mulroney Hall Rotunda (room 318)- offers black & white, single-sided printing
  • Harriet Irving Library public computers– offers black & white and color printing through webprint.stu.ca. Click here for instructions on printing.

 

There is also a laptop sign-out program in which students can sign-out laptops with a valid student ID. Borrowed laptops must be returned within 24 hours. Visit the I.T. Help Desk in the James Dunn Hall Computer Lab for more information.

How can I access my F: drive files at home? (faculty/staff only)

How can I access my Google Drive?
  • Sign in to your student email.
  • Select for this icon at the top right corner of the page: gmailstepsgoogedlrive
  • Select Drive.
How do I save files to my Google Drive?
  • Select the arrow button on the left side of the page googledrive2_000
  • Select either Files or Folder
  • Find the File or Folder on your computer you want to upload, and double-click on it.
  • Allow the file to upload. Depending on the size of your file, this can take a few seconds, or a few minutes.

Passwords

I’m new to STU and don’t know any passwords!

If you have forgotten your network password (Webadvisor, Moodle, Wireless etc)
  • Go to stu.ca/password.
  • Click on the “forgotten password?” blue link at the bottom.
  • Type in your STU E-mail address.
  • You will receive an e-mail that will provde further instructions on resetting your password.
If you know your network password (Webadvisor, Moodle, Wireless etc.) but want to change it
  • Go to stu.ca/password.
  • Enter your username and your current password.
  • Enter in your desired password.
  • Click the Change Password button
STU email password (Faculty & Staff)

Please follow the instructions below to change both your email password and Computer Network Account password:

  1. Go to stu.ca/password
  2. Enter your username, current password, and new password.
  3. Confirm your new password
  4. Click on “Change Password”

 

If you have forgotten your password:

Visit or call the JDH Helpdesk for assistance.

STU email password (students)

If you know your password but want to change it:

  • Sign in to your email.
  • Click on the arrow next to your email address in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Click Account.
  • Click Security.
  • Click Change Password.
  • Enter current and new passwords.
  • Confirm your new password. Click Change Password.

 

If you have forgotten your password:

Go to the JDH Helpdesk with your student ID, a lab assistant will be available to help

Printing

How do I add print credits to my account?

Students get a one time complimentary $5.00 print credit. If you need to add more print credits go to printcredit.stu.ca

How do I find out how many print credits I have left?

You have two options of doing this:

  • Scroll over the clip_image003 icon in your taskbar (area next to the time/date at the bottom right of your screen)
  • Ask a Lab Assistant
How do I set a printer as default on my computer?
  • Click on Start button start
  • Click Devices and Printers
  • Right-click on the desired default printer
  • Select “Set as default printer”

 

How do I use webprint?

Wireless printing is now available campus-wide through a printing tool that can be accessed at webprint.stu.ca.

  • Enter your Computer Network Account credentials to log in

  • Upload the file you want printed by clicking “Choose File”
  • Click Next
  • Wait for the file to be processed
  • When it’s doing processing, you can select a printer from the drop down list of printers displayed
  • Select Print

For color printing via webprint.stu.ca:

  • Select either the James Dunn Lab printer (located in the James Dunn Hall Computer Lab) or Hilcommonscolour printer (located in the Harriet Irving Library).
  • Select the box next to “Advanced”
  • Uncheck the box next to “Print in black/white even if document contains color”
  • Select Print
What do I do if the printer won’t print my document?

For Students:

  • Ensure that you have enough print credits to print the entire document by scrolling over the clip_image003 icon on your taskbar (area next to the time/date at the bottom right of your screen)
  • Wait a few minutes. Sometimes the printer takes a few minutes to warm up
  • Try sending the document to print a second time
  • Ask a Lab Assistant for help

 

For Faculty/Staff:

 

  • Ensure that you selected the right printer in the printer list on your computer
  • Check the paper trays to ensure that there is paper
  • Look at the printer display (if there is one), does it display an error message? Take appropriate action
  • Try sending the document to print a second time
  • Contact the I.T. Help Desk by sending an email to its@stu.ca or calling 452-0635
Where can I print on campus?

There are three options for student printing on campus:

Faculty/Staff can copy/print color documents at the James Dunn Hall Computer Lab.
